La Manga is a beautiful part of Spain on the Costa Calida (Warm Coast) in the region of Murcia. It has one of the most moderate climates in Spain with more days of sunshine than other mainland areas and higher than average water temperatures.
The La Manga Strip is a piece of land between the Mediterranean and the Mar Menor (Little Sea). On average it is 300m wide and stretches out 21 km into the sea.
It has beautiful white sand beaches on both sides and excellent tourist facilities that offer something for everyone.
The Mar Menor is a salt water lagoon 21km long and 10 km wide with a maximum depth of 8m. It is always several degrees warmer than the Mediterranean and is a paradise for water sports and swimming because of its calm and warm crystal clear waters.

Airports
The area is served by two international airports.
The closest one is Murcia (San Javier) Airport which is only 30 minutes drive and approximately 36km (24 miles) from the apartment.
Otherwise you can fly to Alicante which is approximately a 90km (60 miles) drive away. This is the larger of the two airports and has more facilities.
There are many low cost and scheduled flights to both destinations.

The Weather
The area around La Manga and the Mar Menor has hot summers in the 30°s, fanned by refreshing easterly breezes, and mild winters averaging 17°.
Sunshine on average exceeds 300 days a year.
There are fewer than 40 rainy days each year. Rain is concentrated in spring and autumn, when it can be torrential.
Despite the largely dry weather the surrounding landscape is very fertile. It provides a major source of fruit and vegetables for major European supermarket chains (including Sainsburys).

Restauraunts & Local Cuisine
La Manga restaurants offer international cuisine to suit everyone, typically Spanish (paella and seafood), Italian, Indian, English and Chinese.
Fish is mostly caught locally.
You can also find McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC and even ‘fish and chips.’
There are several eating places close by the apartment if you do not want to drive. Also you can walk along the beach (10 minutes) to the restaurant at the Caravanning Park, which provides excellent waiter service and value for money.
